Blog correspondent, Michael Silverling, scanned this interior art picture of Adzel from the Analog magazine serialization of Poul Anderson's Satan's World. The art is by Kelly Freas.
Adzel is carrying someone: David Falkayn?
Michael thought that I might find the art of interest and I thought that blog readers might.
Since
Adzel is running through an alien environment, this post will be
published on the Poul Anderson's Cosmic Environments blog and will later
be copied to Poul Anderson Appreciation.
Kaor, Paul!
ReplyDeleteBeen looking at these pictures of Adzel and Chee lan. Hmmm, not bad. At least Kelly Freas first read SATAN'S WORLD before illustrating the serialization of the novel.
I remember as well how Poul Anderson liked the work of Chesley Bonestell (hope I got the name right). Bonestell illustrated WORLD WITHOUT STARS.
I would mention as well Esteban Moroto, the artist who illustrated the Ace Books edition of A STONE IN HEAVEN. I really LIKED those illustrations. The artist had carefully read STONE before he began illustrating the book. He did a very convincing Dominic Flandry and Chives, for example.
And I'm fond of Frank Frazetta's illustrations for the Science Fiction Book Club edition Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom novels. Richly purple illustrations for richly purple and readable prose!
